UCA defines academic service-learning as a course-based teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.
Every college at UCA offers academic service-learning courses, and the Schedler Honors College as well as a number of disciplines include service-learning experiences for all students in the required curriculum. Students looking for additional opportunities to participate in community engagement at UCA can find a number of co-curricular service experiences, including Bear Boots on the Ground, the university’s disaster response-focused alternative break program; the Big Event, an annual student-organized service day; and various events and opportunities listed by nonprofit community partners throughout the year on the GivePulse service tracking platform.
