While many college-level courses will include collaborative assignments and projects, all UCA students are introduced to the principles of collaboration in the Effective Communication area of the UCA Core. Within the UCA Core curriculum, Effective Communication is defined as the ability to develop and present ideas logically and effectively in order to enhance communication and collaboration with diverse individuals and groups.

At the lower-division, courses that are dedicated to Effective Communication are fundamentally oriented to teaching students about the fundamentals of communication (oral, written, collaborative) and developing these skills to a basic level of competence. This development requires the introduction of fundamental skills and concepts, repeated exposure, and frequent opportunities for feedback.

Outside of the UCA Core, UCA has several specific programs and academic events to promote collaboration through project-based learning, including Reacting to the Past courses, Interprofessional Education courses in the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, and a Pseudoscience Fair through the STEM Residential College.
