Dr. Audie Lynch ‘47

Dr. Audie J. Lynch was born near Scotland (Van Buren County) and has lived in Conway since 1953.

Upon graduation from Scotland High School, Lynch attended several colleges, receiving a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in 1947. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Columbia University and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas.

In World War II, Lynch served in the Navy as an ensign with the amphibious forces in the Pacific. He was an officer on the assault transport USS Charles Carroll.

Lynch was a high school teacher in Clarendon and Hot Springs before returning to UCA, where he served for 34 years as a “teacher of teachers.” He retired in 1987 as assistant dean of the College of Education and teacher certification officer. He was the chairman of the education department for 19 years and was director of field services. For many years, he traveled throughout Arkansas supervising student teachers in the field and also helped many teachers become certified and with their recertification.

In 1988, the UCA Board of Trustees named him Professor Emeritus of Education.

Lynch served on the UCA Alumni Association Board of Directors for six years. In addition, he has served on several alumni association volunteer committees and has logged numerous volunteer hours with the alumni association.

Lynch has provided financial support, throughout his career and retirement, to UCA in the areas of arts & entertainment, athletics and scholarships.

Lynch is a member of First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon, past president of the Golden Circle and Sunday school teacher of the Audie Lynch Class. In addition to his service to the UCA Alumni Association, he is also active in the Conway Noon Lions Club, Faulkner County Retired Teachers, UCA Bearbackers and Purple Circle and is a former volunteer at Conway Regional Medical Center.
