School Psychology

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) program in School Psychology meets the educational requirements for licensure as a School Psychology Specialist (SPS) by the Arkansas Division for Elementary and Secondary Education in the state of Arkansas and as a National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Further, the program is NASP-accredited. For information about the program and its curriculum, see Psychology and Counseling in the UCA Graduate Bulletin.

The following table lists all U.S. states and discloses, in accordance with federal rules, one of the following: (1) UCA’s School Psychology program meets state education requirements for licensure or (2) UCA’s School Psychology program does not meet state education requirements for licensure. It is relevant to note that the UCA program does meet the educational requirements for the NCSP, which in turn is used to meet the educational requirements in most states for a school psychology license.

State licensure requirements change frequently, and in many cases, there are alternate paths for meeting educational requirements for licensure. In addition, many states grant licensure to individuals who first received licensure as a SPS in Arkansas and then apply for licensure in another jurisdiction. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) maintains a comprehensive and searchable list of state credentialing requirements: https://www.nasponline.org/standards-and-certification/school-psychology-credentialing-resources/.
