The UCA women’s basketball team was honored by the Arkansas House of Representatives and the Arkansas Senate at the Capitol on Feb. 28, 2017 for their success this year and last year’s historic run to the Southland Conference tournament championship, as well as their trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The 2017 University of Central Arkansas football signing class was unveiled Wednesday, Feb. 1 at a reception at UCA Downtown.
The reception, featuring UCA head coach Steve Campbell and his staff, was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and featured video highlights of the newest Bears with commentary from Campbell.
The Bears, coming off a 10-3 season which saw them advance to the second round of the FCS Playoffs, open the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Big 12 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.
UCA professor and exercise and sports science director Dr. Mike Gallagher and his students performed metabolic testing in the UCA Human Performance Lab for competitive athletes in the community.
“Metabolic testing, commonly referred to as VO2 max testing, is where athletes come in and we put them through incremental exercise protocol,” says Gallagher. “We go from a very low intensity in duration, usually two to three minutes, and then increase the intensity.”
The test, which lasts from 12 to 20 minutes, is a grueling slog, with participants often left wiped out and ragged.
By the end, Gallagher will be able to suss out such data as the athlete’s VO2 max, anaerobic threshold and how he utilizes fats and carbohydrates. All of this data can be applied by the athlete or a coach to construct a detailed training regimen.

Trick or Trot 2016 will be Thursday, October 27th. T-shirt pick-up is at 7:15 p.m. and the race starts at 8:00 p.m.
Trick or Trot is an approximately 1.5 mile fun walk/run around campus that takes place at night. The race begins and ends at Estes Stadium, and costs $10 to enter, which includes the prices of the t-shirt.
Students must be registered by October 20th to guarantee a t-shirt size, and registration forms can be picked up at the HPER Center Check-in Desk.
Thre will be prizes for Top Three females/males, and everyone is encouraged to wear their coolest Halloween costumes!
Friends and family are welcome, but no pets are allowed.
The annual UCA Sports Hall of Fame Induction brunch was held at 10 a.m. on September 17th in the Student Center ballroom. Before the Bears defeated Northwestern State 24-10, the inductees were honored on The Stripes.
Inductees were Cleon Brown (football), Nathan Brown (football), Lisa Dreher (softball), Layton Gray (football/track), Bobby Hill (football), Don Struebing (football) and Bill Terwilliger (basketball).
