Dr. Heather Hudson, an Assistant Professor in the UCA Department of Health Sciences, has received an outstanding national honor. She has been chosen as “One Of The Top 30 Health Educators Under 30” by the national professional organization, the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE).

UCA Philosophy Professor To Discuss His Latest Publication At Faulkner County Library
On Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. the Faulkner County Library will be hosting UCA philosophy professor Dr. Jacob Held. Dr. Held will be discussing his newest book Roald Dahl and Philosophy: A Little Nonsense Now and Then.
For years Dr. Held as been at the forefront of the Philosophy and Popular Culture movement publishing at the intersection of popular culture and academic philosophy, from his early work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and James Bond to his recent foray into children’s literature, including Dr. Seuss and Philosophy (2011) and his most recent book on Roald Dahl.
Joining Dr. Held will be UCA philosophy professors and fellow contributors, Drs. Taine Duncan, Ron Novy, Ben Rider, and Tanya Jeffcoat. Join these professors for a lively discussion of Willy Wonka and colonialism, Charlie’s Epicureanism, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Social Justice, the Witches and Feminism, and much more.
UCA Writing Professor Releases Collection of Short Stories
John Vanderslice, Associate Professor of Writing, will see the release of his short story collection Island Fog, from publisher Lavender Ink, on October 1, 2014. Meanwhile his story collection The Functions of a Story, a followup to Island Fog, has been named a finalist in the 2014 BOA Editions Short Fiction award.

UCA Alumna and Conway Artist Receives Award in Delta Exhibition
Jessica Camp, Fall 2013 BFA Studio Art: Painting Emphasis, had work accepted for the 2014 Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center. Camp is a UCA alumna and her work was exhibited in the Baum Gallery. The work selected was Weeping Lamentation from her BFA Senior Exhibition. She won an honorable mention award in the 56th annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.
