College Of Education Mashburn Center Expands Its Services

In keeping with Dr. Mashburn’s mission to equip all Arkansas teachers to help struggling learners reach their optimal level of success, the Mashburn Center for Learning has created the Mashburn Center for Learning Resource Center (MCLRC).

The resource center also provides professional development for teachers, administrators, instructional facilitators, and other educators. MCLRC serves as a resource for all educational stakeholders to provide accurate and current information about best practices. We will continuously update this resource center with current Arkansas Adolescent Literacy Intervention (AALI) and Mashburn Institute for Social, Emotional, and Service Learning activities and additional resources.

UCA Athletic Training Students And Staff Care For Arkansas Athletes

photo 2 copy Arkansas athletic trainers volunteered their time to care for the athletes from across Arkansas as they gathered on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. The event was the annual AAA All-Star week that showcases graduated high school seniors.

The medical coverage was organized by former UCA athletic training graduate Todd Ross. The week-long event includes softball, baseball, M&W soccer, volleyball, M&W basketball and football.
Former and current Certified athletic trainers who provided their services for the week that have ties to UCA were: Todd Ross, Jason Carruth, David Strickland, and Steve Hornor.

The following athletic training students from the UCA athletic training program were: Nick Whittemore, Andrew Tackett, Lauren Talley, Ashley Womack, Karrie Butler, Chris Rodriguez, Wilson McKnight.

The University of Central Arkansas continues to be a leader in the athletic training profession across the state of Arkansas.

UCA Athletic Training Student Honored At District Meeting As 2014 SWATA Scholarship Recipient.

Senior ATS, Wilson McKnight received a $500 undergraduate scholarship. The scholarship is the W. B. Carrell Clinic Sports Medicine Dr. Robert Vandermeer Scholarship. He was recognized on July 18, 2014at the South West Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Frisco, Texas.

Wilson is currently in the 2015 Athletic Training class. He has been a Presidential Scholar award winner and on the Dean’s List in the Spring of 2013 while attending UCA. He has demonstrated great leadership qualities during his time in the program. He has also volunteered his time to the AAA All-star week and assisted in providing medical coverage to the high school athletes competing.

Stephanie Vanderslice, professor in the Department of Writing, kicked off the Living Writer’s series 2014-2015 at the State University of New York at Oswego September 8, 2014with a talk on Literary Citizenship.

UCA Professor Taught Chilean Physical Therapists In Santiago, Chile

darla Dr. Darla Cathcart of the Department of Physical Therapy taught the course “Fundamentals of Pregnancy and Postpartum Physical Therapy” to Chilean physical therapists in Santiago, Chile, on October 4-6, 2014. The course, sponsored through the Section on Women’s Health of the American Physical Therapy Association, had a full cohort of 40 participants.

In addition, Physical Therapy faculty members at Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile, for the second year in a row, expressed interest in establishing a physical therapy student exchange with the University of Central Arkansas.
