The UCA Department of Nursing announced that four UCA Level 3 nursing students were selected for the Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System, Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunities Residency (VALOR) Program.
The 2016 VALOR recipients are Alexandra Hufford, Christina Rapaal, Taylor Willis and Chloe Wren.
The VALOR program was initiated in the summer of 1990, this program provides opportunities for outstanding BSN students to develop competencies in clinical nursing at an approved VA health care facility. Opportunities for learning include didactic or classroom experiences, competency-based clinical practice with a qualified registered nurse preceptor, and participation in nursing-focused clinical conferences. Students recruited for the program must have completed the final semester or quarter of the junior year in an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing accredited baccalaureate or generic equivalent nursing program. Students may be appointed on a full or part-time basis during the summer months and may continue during their senior academic year on a part-time basis. The aggregate hours that a student may be funded while in the program is up to 800 hours.
