UCA had 66 students who studied abroad this summer through five different programs in the following countries: Italy, France, Brazil, Costa Rica and China.
The Spanish Language Immersion program in Costa Rica, led by Dr. Jaime Zambrano every year since 2001, allows students to spend 4 weeks abroad studying Spanish and immersing themselves in the Costa Rican culture. Students have the opportunity to live with host families and typically have the weekends to participate in excursions around the country.
Paris has been a popular destination for UCA programs. Students along with professors by Dr. Katelyn Knox (French) and Dr. Taine Duncan (Philosophy) completed a two-week study of Paris and focused on issues of identity. Students visited many of Paris’ major monuments during their stay including the Louvre, Versailles, Sacre Coeur Basilica and the Montmartre Art District.
UCA in Florence is an interdisciplinary study abroad as professors from multiple departments (Psychology, Interior Design and Economics) lead the program. Based out of Florence, students have the opportunity to explore many other cities in Italy while abroad.
CSPA graduate students had the opportunity to travel to one of UCA’s partner universities located in Varginha, Brazil. Dr. Susan Barclay, assistant professor, led students on this comparative study of higher education and student affairs, which included a three-day cultural immersion experience in the Brazilian coastal town of Porto Seguro.
Seven UCA students spent one month in Shanghai studying Mandarin Chinese at East China Normal University. ECNU is one of UCA’s partner university’s also hosts a semester exchange program for students wanting to study for a longer period in China.
