Spring 2016 graduate, Karrie Butler, of the University of Central Arkansas Athletic Training Program was awarded the Gail Weldon Memorial Scholarship from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Named after Gail Weldon, the scholarship contributes $2,300 towards the pursuit of a graduate degree in athletic training. Weldon was a pioneer in the advancement of women in the field of athletic training. She was the second woman to join the NATA and one of the first 10 women certified as an athletic trainer. Weldon was also the first female athletic trainer hired by the U.S. Olympic Committee. Her achievements got her inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 1995.
