The Conway Symphony Orchestra opened its 30th Anniversary season with a concert entitled “Thrilling at 30” Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Performance Hall at UCA.
The concert opened with the world premiere of Free Flight: Gliding Over Arkansas by composer Paul Dickinson, Assoc. Professor of Composition and Music Theory at UCA.
The newly commissioned work is based on Dickinson’s hang gliding adventures around the state. Professor of Flute Carolyn Brown was featured in Cecile Chaminade’s lyrical Concertino for Flute and Orchestra. The concert closed with the always exciting Symphony No. 2 (The “Little Russian”) by Tchaikovsky.
