Dr. Heather E. Yates joined the political science department at UCA in 2015. Dr. Yates teaches courses in American politics treating themes related to gender, race, and political institutions and processes such as the American presidency and elections. Dr. Yates’ research interests focus on the intersection of emotions and identities in electoral contexts with an emphasis on presidential campaign cycles. Dr. Yates has authored two books on the role of emotions and identities in presidential contests and co-edited a collaborative volume focused on the influence of popular culture and celebrities on public opinion. For the African/African American Studies program, she teaches a course titled “Race in U.S. Politics.”
