Youth Theatre to Present Performances

YOUTH THEATRE OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS TO PRESENT PERFORMANCES

 

The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas, sponsored by the UCA Theatre Foundation, will present two short plays on Thursday and Friday, July 12 and 13 at 7:00 pm in the Bridges/Larson Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center.

 

The Junior Group, grades 3-6, will present Captain Underpants and the Evil Lunch Ladies, an adaptation by Ruthann Brown of the book by Dav Pilkey.  In this Sci-Fi adventure, the students have been turned into Zombies, the Principal is an inept Superhero and the school has been taken over by the Lunch Ladies. The cast includes Keely Ausburn and Natalie Hiatt, both of Maumelle, Declan Bell, Olivia Bowles, Payton Brady, Griffin Deitrick, Aiyla East, Sidnie Thompson, Gabrielle Johnson, Lucas Massingill,  Max Lambert, Hadley Moser, Adama McDonald, Haley Shourd, all of Conway, Haydyn Hudnall of Mayflower, and Drake Cohea of Cabot.

 

The Senior Group, grades 7-12, will present Whiskers, an original play by Youth Theatre alumna, Taylor Hicks. The dark comedy finds Whiskers, the cat, assigned to a girl as her pet, but he’s from another world and wants only to return home. Senior group participants include Blake Allen of Bigelow, Jessica Brown, Gabrielle Choquette, Monica Choquette, Rachel Glenn, Jamie Guinee, Bethany Hollis, Jeffery Johnston, Vera Lambert, Stevie Rae Massey, and Emily Mathis, all of Conway, Sami Sharp of Searcy, and Devin Tyler Sims of Wooster.

 

Both plays will be presented each evening with Captain Underpants…beginning at 7:00 pm followed by Whiskers at around 7:45 pm. Admission is free. Tickets are not required and seats are not reserved. Doors open each evening at 6:30 pm.

 

The Youth Theatre provides creative, professional theatrical experiences for students in grades 3-12 and is under the direction of Ruthann Curry Browne with assistance from UCA Theatre majors Allison Benton, Blake Rogers, and Tyler Gunther. Over the past several weeks, students have been tutored in acting, stagecraft, script analysis, voice, movement and makeup in addition to rehearsing for their performances.
