WHITEHEAD NAMED TO STATE GIS BOARD

Amy Whitehead

Amy Whitehead, director of the Center for Community and Economic Development at the University of Central Arkansas, has been named to the Arkansas Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Board.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson made the announcement last week.

“I am honored to serve on the Arkansas Geographic Information Systems Board. The board is committed to improving the economic development and quality of life for Arkansans, which is a shared goal of mine and of UCA’s Center for Community and Economic Development. This opportunity will allow me to better assist local leaders with specific strategies for improving local data infrastructure, which is becoming increasingly critical for the state’s cities and counties,” Whitehead said.

The GIS Board supports economic development and an improved quality of life for Arkansas citizens by providing basic spatial data infrastructure, coordinating geographic information activities, and creating short- and long-term strategies that will result in improved decision making, effective asset management, and reduced costs.
