UCA Theatre to Present “ART”

UCA Theatre will open its 2012-13 season with ART by Jasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton.

This face-paced comedy raises the timeless question “What is Art” when Serge buys a large, completely white painting. His friends are horrified and the relationship begins to suffer. A Tony-award winner for Best Play, the Broadway cast featured Alan Alda, Victor Garber, and Alfred Molina.

The play is under the direction of Matt Duncan, senior Theatre major from Bentonville and James Bridges Scholar. It features senior Adam Bennett of Sheridan as Serge and junior Schafer Bourne of Lonoke and senior Brady Ness of Conway as his friends who think he’s a little insane for buying a blank canvas.

Set design is by senior Josh Anderson of Lonoke, lighting design is by senior A.D. Balch of Harrison, and costume design is by senior Haley Tynes of Shirley.

The play will be presented September 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7:30 pm in the Studio Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.  The play is recommended for mature audiences only.

Tickets are available through UCA Ticket Central, located in the Reynolds Performance Hall box office, or at the information desk of the Student Center. Seating is limited. Due to the configuration of the performance space, no one will be admitted after curtain.
