International Education Week

International Education Week, coordinated by UCA’s International Engagement, is a national event established to increase awareness about international cultures and encourage students to study and travel abroad. These events were organized with the help of EDGE Residential College, the Intensive English Program, and several international RSOs.

Monday, November 18
“Going Global: A Study Abroad Information Session”
3:00-4:00 pm
Irby Hall, Room 121Whether you want to travel, but aren’t sure of your options or you are ready to apply for a program today…this session is for you! Come hear what our special guests have to say regarding the benefits of Study Abroad. Oh, the places you can go!!!

Ethnic Dance Party
7:00 – 9:45 pm
Student Center Ballroom
Each student group will share their dance as a mini performance, and then take time to teach the steps to other students. Learn traditional and contemporary dances from all around the world at the Ethnic Dance Party!

Tuesday, November 19
World Fest

Enjoy a tour of the world through country displays, study abroad opportunities and culturally themed RSO’s. The Student Center lawn will come alive with the international flair of the diverse communities represented at UCA.

Fashion Show

From tuxedo to kimono…UCA is home to over 500 international students from 60 different countries. The UCA community is invited to see these students as they model the traditional costumes from their home countries.

Wednesday, November 20
“Community Relations Executive Seminar Training – or CREST”
3:00-4:00 pm
Ida Waldron Auditorium (Refreshments following event)
This short seminar allows international students to learn about the mission, goals, history, and internal workings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Students interact with agents from the FBI, University Police Department, and the US Attorney’s Office (federal prosecutor’s office). Students will learn about the different law enforcement agencies, keeping yourself and your property safe, and you civil rights.

International Dinner and a Movie
6:00 – 9:00 pm
EDGE Residential College at State Hall
Join EDGE for International Dinner and a Movie. Each month EDGE focuses on a different culture for this event, and for the month of November the theme will be China. Dinner (egg-rolls, sesame veggie noodles, and baked chicken) will begin at 6:00 pm, and the movie will begin at 7:00 pm. Feel free to go earlier if you want to help cook the meal!

In collaboration with EDGE Residential College, the Intensive English Program hosts Language Corner. This conversation program is full of different games and language activities each week.

International Trivia Night

Test your knowledge of world geography and current events for the chance to win fantastic prizes. Gather three friends and head to Stanley Russ as we travel around the world exploring trivia from all ages and locations!

Korean Movie Night

Want to learn more about the Korean Club at UCA? Come to Korean Movie Night to watch a romantic comedy, “Speedy Scandal.”

“Are you ready to Go Global?” Financial Aid and Passport Fair

Stop by the Office of Study Abroad to meet with Financial Aid and Scholarship Advisors to discuss funding options for your study abroad program. A representative from the Post Office will also be in attendance to provide Passport Applications.

Soccer Tournament

UCA Intramural Fields
International Engagement will host a soccer tournament. For this one night tournament, come and show your skills on the field. You must pre-register your team in order to play!

Saturday, November 23
Diwali

Diwali or the “festival of lights” event is sponsored by the Indian Student Association. Come celebrate the Indian culture with music, dancing, and food.

Thanksgiving Potluck

Join the Division of International Engagement at a potluck celebration of the favorite American holiday of Thanksgiving. Bring your favorite dish to share!
