Baum Gallery receives educational award

At the 2004 Arkansas Museums Association conference in March, the Baum Gallery of Fine Art received the 2004 Educational Program of the Year Award for the January seminar “Ownership and Advocacy: The Logistics of Preserving Arkansas’ Post Office Murals.”

The seminar was organized to encourage informed advocacy for the care and preservation of Arkansas? nineteen WPA-era post office murals. It provided an educational and networking opportunity for museum staff, community volunteers, members of history and art associations, government officials and elected representatives, teachers, students, and the general public.

Presentations included information about the history, conservation, and process of protecting the historic murals.

The seminar was sponsored in part by the UCA Foundation, the Arkansas Museums Assoc., and the UCA Dept. of Art. Barbara Satterfield, Director, accepted the award on behalf of the Baum Gallery of Fine Art at the AMA’s annual awards luncheon that was held in the Old State House in Little Rock.
