What do you need to do to write a proposal, create a budget, and prepare for submission to a sponsor?
During the Proposal Development phase, the proposal is crafted, the budget is formulated, and the entire proposal package is readied for sponsor submission. It’s important to distinguish this process from the later stages of routing and submitting your proposal through Cayuse.
The bulk of your proposal preparation will occur within your respective school, college, department, or unit. You might need to consult the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) for help in negotiating and reviewing sponsor agreements, as well as for additional support in proposal development.
If a proposal is submitted at least six weeks before the submission deadline, the ORSP will be able to fully assist in the project narrative and budget development (among other services)
Strategies for Successful Proposal Development:
THOROUGHLY REVIEW THE SPONSOR GUIDELINES
- Carefully read (and re-read) the guidelines, funding announcement (FOA), or request for proposal (RFP). Each one is unique, even if issued by the same agency.
ENGAGE WITH ORSP FOR NEGOTIATIONS AND AGREEMENTS
- Redirect discussions about indirect cost arrangements to ORSP.
- Seek ORSP’s assistance for the negotiation and review of agreements and grants.
- Utilize our services for signing authority and grant acceptance on behalf of the University.
