Listed below are the topics for all of the committees that will be simulated during the conference, except for Historical Security Council, Security Council, and Model International Court of Justice (MICJ). Each of the committees listed below have been assigned two or three topics. The members of each of the committees will determine the order of the agenda items (committee topics) to be debated and the extent to which the agenda items (committee topics) will be debated.
In the case of the Historical Security Council (HSC), information regarding the events of 1946 will be presented in chronological order to the delegates on the council during the conference. Members of the council will decide to what extent, if at all, to respond to the unfolding events. In the case of the Security Council, delegates will decide on the agenda items during the conference based on what is happening in the real world at that time. In the case of the MICJ, three cases will be presented to the delegates (judges) during the conference.
First Committee (Disarmament & International Security)
(1) Strengthening international efforts to implement the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and to achieve a world without nuclear weapons by 2050.
(2) Implementing the “international peace and security” provisions (Action items # 13 through #27) of the Pact for the Future, Global Digital Compact, and Declaration on Future Generations, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2024.
Second Committee (Economic & Financial)
(1) Addressing the negative consequences of extreme global wealth inequality in the international system.
(2) Implementing the “sustainable development and financing for development” provisions (Action items #1 through 12) of the Pact for the Future, Global Digital Compact, and Declaration on Future Generations, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2024.
Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural)
(1) Addressing the consequences of global cultural homogenization, including the loss of global cultural diversity and indigenous cultures, caused by the widespread use social media throughout the world.
(2) Addressing the problems and dangers faced by humanitarian workers in conflict situations throughout the world, including intentional attacks on humanitarian workers and obstructions against the efforts of humanitarian workers to provide assistance to civilians adversely impacted by conflicts.
Novice General Assembly (GA) Committee
(1) Addressing the negative consequences of air pollution throughout the world.
(2) Implementing the “youth and future generations” provisions (Action items #34 through 37) of the Pact for the Future, Global Digital Compact, and Declaration on Future Generations, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 22, 2024.
Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
(1) Encouraging UN member-states to aggressively implement updated and improved greenhouse gas emission reduction targets (nationally determined contributions – NDCs) in order to effectively combat climate change.
(2) Addressing a decline in the quality of the global workforce, including decreases in the mathematics, science, and reading scores of students in developed countries.
(3) Addressing the fragmentation of the global economy, including protectionism, international trade restrictions (tariffs and non-tariff barriers), and geopolitical tensions.
Human Rights Council (HRC)
(1) Preventing human rights abuses against children in conflict situations.
(2) Protecting the rights of migrants and refugees, including the right to seek asylum.
(3) Addressing human rights abuses resulting from cyber-attacks, including the right to privacy in cyberspace and freedom of expression on the internet.
Council of the Arab League
(1) Addressing high unemployment rates among young men and women in the Middle East and North Africa.
(2) Addressing public demands for greater political participation and strengthening political institutions in the Middle East and North Africa.
(3) Addressing the continuing threats posed by extremist and terrorist groups in the Middle East and North Africa.
