Alumni Advisory Council (AAC)

Membership Criteria:

The faculty of the Department of Government, Public Service, and International Studies (GPI) shall appoint four members of the Alumni Advisory Council (AAC) from each of the three programs in the department (Political Science, Public Administration, and International Studies) and six at-large members for a total of eighteen members.  Alumni with degrees in any of the departmental degree programs are eligible to serve regardless of their place of residence.

Alumni Advisory Council, 2024-2025

Advisory Council Chair:

The chair of the AAC shall be appointed by the department faculty.  The chair of the AAC shall report to the GPI department chair.

 The duties of the chair of the AAC shall consist of the following:

  • Help establish the vision, mission, and expectations of the council.
  • Serve as a liaison between the council and department faculty.
  • Facilitate goal setting and monitor progress of the council as it relates to the duties and responsibilities of the council.
  • Organize and lead meetings of the council.
  • Communicate regularly with members of the council.

Terms of Office:

The terms of office of the chair and members of the AAC shall be three years with an initial staggered start of the terms.  Member of the AAC may be appointed for an additional consecutive term.  A vacancy shall be filled by department faculty.

Member Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise the department on curriculum matters, including academic programs, courses, skills development, and experiential learning.
  • Mentor current students and meet periodically with students and student organizations. Mentoring may be done either in-person or remotely.
  • Work with department faculty to support departmental activities and events.
  • Work with department faculty to support fundraising efforts including the identification of potential donors and the hosting of fundraising events.
  • Bring a commitment to helping the department improve in all facets.
