Syd Hayman serves as writer and editor for the University Relations & Creative Services department, as well as a writer and copy editor for UCA Magazine.
A Little Rock native, Syd received her bachelor’s in magazine publishing and management from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2014. Upon returning home to Arkansas, Syd interned with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s night copy desk. Since then, she has written and copy edited for publications such as Sync Weekly magazine, Arkansas Life magazine, the Three Rivers Edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and others.
Syd serves as secretary for the Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and she was named a Dori Maynard Diversity Leadership Program fellow through SPJ in 2017. She is also an advisory board member for the Celebrate! Maya Project, which aims to honor and promote literacy and the legacy of Maya Angelou.
In her free time, Syd enjoys making jewelry, working toward her yearly reading goal, and freelance writing and editing.
