As I read through this edition of UCA Magazine, I am reminded that the University of Central Arkansas is defined not only by achievement, but by service, collaboration and a shared commitment to creating opportunity for others. The stories in these pages reflect the many ways our students, alumni, faculty and friends continue to make an impact across Arkansas and far beyond.
This issue highlights two remarkable individuals whose lives embody that spirit of leadership and service. Distinguished Alumni honorees Col. Addie Mae Morris ’80 and Dr. Jeff Standridge ’90 have built extraordinary careers in healthcare, business, military service and community leadership while remaining deeply connected to UCA. Their stories remind us that leadership is not limited to one path, and that meaningful success is measured by the lives we influence along the way.
You will also read about another successful Day of Giving, when thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends came together in support of scholarships, academic programs and campus initiatives. The generosity shown during those 24 hours reflects something larger than philanthropy alone. It reflects belief in our students and confidence in the future of this university.
That future is also taking shape through programs that connect learning with real-world experience. From the Student Managed Investment Fund to behind-the-scenes work in our theatre department, UCA students continue to gain hands-on opportunities that prepare them for leadership in their professions and communities.
This edition also highlights the work of the Center for Community and Economic Development, which continues to strengthen communities across Arkansas through partnerships, training and innovation. At UCA, we understand that higher education plays a vital role in workforce development, economic growth and quality of life throughout our state.
As you explore the pages ahead, you will also find stories of sustainability and the people who make this university special – from the Green Bear Coalition to this year’s Laurels & Stripes celebration and the many impact stories shared by alumni and friends.
Thank you for your continued support of UCA and for being part of a community that continues to lead, serve and inspire.
Go Bears!
