Because of the strong support of so many of you, we have done more than survive the challenges of the day; we have thrived. With your engagement, we have exceeded our fundraising goals for four consecutive years, expanded our donor base, and become a state model for day of giving efforts. Thank you!
These and other successes have propelled us forward to the public announcement of our $100 million comprehensive capital campaign, UCA Now: Impact Arkansas and Beyond — the largest fundraising campaign in our university’s history.
This campaign tells the world that our students, our faculty, and our university are making a difference in our communities across the state and region and are worthy of investment.
As the vice president for Advancement and president of the UCA Foundation, I have the privilege of seeing first-hand the amazing impact of your generosity across our campus and in the opportunities provided to our students through private scholarships. There are so many hardworking students who need a little help to make their dreams come true, but the need far exceeds the number of private scholarships that are available as I was vividly reminded of when recently serving on the UCA Foundation Scholarship Committee. So many worthy students were turned down because there just were not enough scholarships to go around.
Like many of you, I support scholarships and other initiatives at UCA through annual giving. But I am excited that through an estate gift, using a life insurance policy, I am establishing the Vicky Bane Malone Memorial Scholarship to honor my sister.
Vicky graduated with a nursing degree from UCA in 1975. Being the first in my family to get a degree changed my sister’s life and allowed her to live out her passion for helping others as a surgical nurse. Sadly, Vicky passed away when she was only 28 years old. My hope is that this legacy gift in memory of my smart, beautiful sister will help other young men and women achieve their dream of becoming a nurse.
As you consider your legacy and how you can join the $100 million movement to impact Arkansas and Beyond, please know that every gift matters. Every gift — large and small — adds up to tremendous impact. Together, we can transform our university and our communities for generations to come — one student at a time!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Bane Lackie
