Lori Leavell

Dr. Leavell completed a doctorate in English at Emory University in 2011 and began teaching at UCA later that year. Her research and teaching interests include Nineteenth-Century American Literature, African American Literature, Literature of the US South, and History of the Book and Print Culture Studies. Having held research fellowships at the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Harrison Institute at the University of Virginia, she has published scholarship in Mississippi Quarterly, Callaloo, and Book History. Over in the English department, Dr. Leavell directs the MA program. She regularly teaches courses that are part of the African/African American Studies curriculum, namely African American Literature, Major African American Writers, and Southern Literature.
