What is the Strength of the General Writing Program?

The strength of the General Writing track is its breadth. Students in this track will take 36 hours of writing classes in rhetoric, composition, creative writing, linguistics, and professional writing. As a result, students will leave the program with a solid interdisciplinary understanding of the field of writing, including its creative, scientific, and professional aspects.

What Experiences Could You Have in the Program?

Interesting opportunities to develop as a writer are plentiful in the Writing Department and include work on our student literary magazine The Vortex, internship experiences with publications such as our international literary journal The Toad Suck Review, 501 Life, and The Oxford American, and work as an internationally certified tutor in the UCA Writing Center. Faculty in this area are active scholars and dedicated teachers. Class sizes are kept small so that students will get a good deal of one-to-one mentorship and advising.
