Jennifer Patterson Parrack (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) is Associate Professor of Spanish and, since arriving at UCA in 1999, has taught a wide variety of classes from Introductory Spanish to graduate seminars in Spanish Peninsular literature. Parrack, recipient of the 2018 UCA Teaching Excellence Award, especially enjoys teaching courses that give students the opportunity to work in Spanish outside the classroom in project-based and service learning as well as through study abroad. She loves connecting students with larger communities of learners and alumni through enrichment and volunteer opportunities. Parrack has worked in assessment in the Spanish program as well as frequently serving as a reader for AP Spanish Literature and Language since 2000. Her early career examines representations of fantasy and monstrosity in Spanish women’s writing, such as her articles on Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda’s Sab and Adelaida García Morales’s El silencio de las sirenas. More recently, Parrack´s research looks at the way that objects facilitate the materialization of personal and collective memory in Spanish post-Franco narratives.
