Environmental Strategies

Environmental-level strategies target the campus community and student population as a whole and are designed to change the environments in which drinking occurs. A major goal is to reduce the availability of alcohol, which cuts consumption and harmful consequences.

The following environmental-level approaches are implemented.

  • Substance-free campus
  • Providing alcohol-free social activities and events
  • Bystander Intervention programs
  • Enforcing the age-21 minimum legal drinking age
  • Campus police and party monitors at social events
  • Scheduling classes on Friday
  • Keeping the library and recreational facilities open longer
  • Campus-wide media campaigns
