Reserve/Guard

A military reserve, reserve formation, or simply reserve, is a group of military personnel or units which are initially not committed to a battle by their commander so that they are available to address unforeseen situations or exploit suddenly developing opportunities.

The National Guard of the United States, part of the reserve components of the United States Armed Forces, is a reserve military force, composed of National Guard military members or units of each state.

The scholarships listed below are those applicable only to the Reserve/Guard. Of the scholarships listed below they can all be used by either a National Guard member or a Reservist.


 

A. Neumann & Associates Scholarship – This scholarship is available to all students enrolled at a US based college or university, regardless of their country of origin or nationality. Requiring a short essay on an annual basis this scholarship is well worth getting, given the dedication of the organization.

AMVETS – Many of the scholarships offered by AMVETS are branch specific, but those offered have at least one for every current branch. The scholarships provided are also time sensitive.

AMVETS – Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship – The Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Veterans, including members of the National Guard and Reserves, who are seeking new skills in order to be competitive in the job market.

AMVETS Scholarships – AMVETS annually awards scholarships to Veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grandchildren.  A son, daughter or grandchild of a deceased Veteran is also eligible.

Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association – This program has a focus on information technology, cyber security, telecommunications. and electronics supporting the defense, homeland security, and intelligence communities. The foundation, in conjunction with AFCEA chapters worldwide, provides more than $2 million in scholarships a year.

Army Emergency Relief: Spouse Education Assistance Program – The MG James Ursano Scholarship program is for dependent children of Soldiers on federal active duty, retired, or deceased while in active or retired status.

Army Women’s Foundation – The Army Women’s Foundation recognizes the importance of education and the role it plays in personal, professional and economic fulfillment. The Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program provides grants to women soldiers, past and present, and their lineal descendants to help them attain their educational goals.

Coast Guard Foundation – The grants provided here require a family member be active duty or a veteran of the National Guard, and provide educational assistance to their dependents and their spouses.

Fisher House Military Family Scholarships – The provided here are for the benefit of military families whom are looking for scholarships either for the veteran/active military member themselves, spouses, or their children.

Hoshizaki Ice Maker Scholarship – An annual scholarship for spring and fall semesters to benefit students involved in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused fields of study. An award of $1000 will be sent to the office of Financial Aid of the winning applicant’s institution, funds may be used for tuition, books, food, etc at the applicants discretion.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation – The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships for higher education to deserving sons and daughters of Marines and children of former Marines, with particular attention being given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action.

Military Officers Association of America Scholarships and Grants – Visit the MOAA Scholarships and Grants site for information on a variety of different scholarships, grants and interest-free loans.

Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship – The Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship is available to the recipient of a Purple Heart; a direct descendant of a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart or of a Veteran killed in action or who died of wounds; or a spouse or widow(er) of a recipient of the Purple Heart.

National Guard – The scholarships offered through the National Guard are for those who join this branch of the military. Many of the scholarships provided are for getting your BA or BS before any service obligation, but many more are offered after service.

Navy Engineering Scholarships and Careers – Offers a great technology and engineering degree for those willing to commit to a service obligation.

Navy Medical Scholarships – These Scholarships require a 2-4 year service obligation after use, but fully pay tuition for a 4 year degree in a pre-decided field. The scholarships here range from health care services, engineering, and aviation.

NBCC Foundation – The NBCC Foundation Military Scholarship Program is designed to encourage Service Members and Veterans to pursue careers in professional counseling.  The program provides financial support to students who enroll, or seek to enroll, in a CACREP accredited counseling program during or after military service, and who commit to serving military personnel.

(SR)Education Group: Providing over $200,000 worth of scholarships since 2010 this online resource for education is well worth a look, they offer several scholarships both civilian and military based. Dedicated to the education of students traditional and Non-traditional, the SR Education Group is a motivated and reliable resource for scholarships along with general college information.

The Pat Tillman Foundation – The Pat Tillman Foundation has announced that the new Leadership Through Action – Tillman Military Scholars program is accepting applications.  Individuals eligible for the Leadership Through Action – Tillman Military Scholars program include Veterans and active Service Members of both pre- and post-9/11 service; Service Members who wish to start, finish, or further their education; Service Members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve); Service Members pursuing undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, two-year, four-year, public, private, vocational, and trade degrees or certifications; and dependents of Service Members (children and spouses).

Troops to Teachers – The Troops to Teachers (TTT) program enriches the quality of American education by helping to place mature, motivated, experienced, and dedicated personnel in our nation’s classrooms.  TTT provides financial assistance, counseling, and employment referral through a network of state TTT Placement Assistance Offices

VFW Military Scholarships The VFW’s Military Scholarship program provides 25 $3,000 scholarships annually to VFW members who are currently serving in uniform or have been discharged within the 36 months before the December 31 deadline.
