Service Learning in Cuba 2016
The deadline for the $250.00 deposit for Service Learning in Cuba is Friday, Dec. 11th.
The Cuba trip will fulfill the service learning requirement for affiliated courses. The program is located in Old Havana, a charming colonial district of the capital city. The setting in Havana will allow students, particularly those that are more linguistically and culturally adept to explore historic and cultural sites, universities, etc. Students will aim to learn about Cuban culture, practice speaking Spanish, reflect on cultural origins of Latinos of Cuban origin in the U.S., learn about U.S.-Cuban relations, gain experience teaching English as a second language, provide service to a community in need, and learn about Afro-Cuban cultural relations (religion, music, and dance).
Offered in conjunction with: SPAN 2320 Intermediate Spanish 111, SPAN 4396/6396 Afro-Caribbean Cultural Studies, and LALS 2310 Latinos in the U.S.
