Contracts / Sub-awards

A contract is a formal and legally binding agreement that typically comes in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). A contract is used when a faculty/staff member enters into an agreement with another entity (individual or group) in which one party is expected to perform a professional service for compensation or equipment.

A sub-award or sub-recipient agreement is a type of contract that is part of a grant-funded project wherein one entity provides a professional service in the context of the larger project. It includes expenses such as salary, fringe, travel, supplies, and F&A.

See UCA’s SPO Sub-Recipient Monitoring Policy and Procedures.

The Request for Pre-Award Spending can be used when a sub-award agreement is created, but funding has not yet been received and the UCA researcher needs to begin his/her project.
