TURNING 15 ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM

TICKETS ARE $10 ADULTS AND $5 CHILDREN/STUDENTS

Filled with traditional and original Gospel and Freedom songs, Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom tells the moving and inspiring true story of Lynda Blackmon, the youngest person to walk all the way from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, on the Voting Rights March in 1965.  Linda was jailed nine times before her fifteenth birthday as she and her friends fought alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to secure the right to vote for African Americans.  Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, High Art, Psych), adapted the award-winning memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery (Dial Press, 2016) for the stage. 

Recommended grades 6-12.  Study:  Communication, Language Arts, Social Studies, History

There will be an evening performance at 7:30 pm for the public with an additional performance by The Writeous Poets and Q&A session with Stacy James McAdoo.  More information can be found by clicking here.  Tickets are $15 adults, $5 for students/children/UCA Community.
