Recent Internship Openings

Below is a list of recent internship openings for all students majoring or minoring in programs located in the Department of Political Science.  For more information regarding these and other internship openings, students should contact Dr. Kim Hoffman, Internship Coordinator, at khoffman@uca.edu

1. El Zocalo Immigrant Resource Center
The El Zocalo Immigrant Resource Center in Central Arkansas is looking to bring two interns onto our team for Spring/Summer 2023.  We are looking for prospective interns who have:

  • a commitment and dedication to the organization’s mission and work
  • a strong work ethic and motivation
  • an ability to work as a team with solid communication skills
  • deep care and concern for immigrants
  • cultural and linguistic competency
Interns will work approximately 10-20 hours a week, starting mid-January and ending in late May for Spring period and starting early May and
ending mid or late August for summer period.  The organization’s offices are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:30 pm-7:30 pm
and tasks are assigned remotely the rest of the hours.  At this time, all our internships are unpaid, but we try to give back in experience!  We seek
to give our interns a unique and in-depth experience, by providing opportunities to learn about the inner workings of our non-profit, built
authentic and sincere relationships with our immigrant neighbors, and gain tangible experience for their careers and academic studies, when
applicable.  Our internships are competitive.  We seek interns who will become a true part of our team and with whom our staff will work
closely to develop and hone their goals and projects. We often cannot place every applicant with a position. An intern’s full commitment to their
hours of service is very important.  We have designed this application to get to know prospective interns more and evaluate if it’s a good fit!  The
priority application deadline is December 20, 2022.

2.  Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA)
The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) has developed a paid internship program that provides students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience in their area of interest while exploring a career in public service. This twelve-week program (09/06/2022–11/05/2022) allows interns to work up to 20 hours per week and earn $15.33/hr. Working hours are flexible to meet the needs of students. Most internships are located in Little Rock. However, opportunities are offered in other areas around the state. Applicants should pay close attention to the location of the position when applying. Applications must be received no later than July 17, 2022 for Fall consideration. Please assist us in notifying your students of these amazing opportunities. 3. U.S. Department of State
The U.S. Department of State Paid Student Internship Program is an experience offering U.S. citizen students a chance to participate in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.  U.S. citizen, undergraduate and graduate students with a strong interest in the U.S. Department of State. All applicants must be returning to an academic program upon conclusion of their internship to be eligible.  The U.S. Department of State aims to provide student interns with opportunities both educationally and professionally substantive in nature. The purpose of the program is to provide students with insight into the work of U.S. foreign policy and the administration of the U.S. Department of State and its diplomatic facilities around the world. Specific duties and responsibilities vary according to the domestic office or overseas post of assignment. Generally, interns may: participate in meetings with senior-level U.S. Government or foreign government officials; draft, edit, or contribute to cables, reports, communications, talking points, or other materials used by policymakers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives; support events, including international and/or multilateral meetings and conferences; engage directly with U.S. audiences in helping to explain the work of the U.S. Department of State or foreign audiences in helping to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.  Student interns may be required to do some routine administrative work.

4. Arkansas United
Arkansas United is a non-profit providing advocacy services to the immigrant population in Arkansas.  Arkansas United provides a vital voice for the immigrants of Arkansas in politics, health, legal issues, education, and labor matters and has Immigrant Resource Centers/offices in Springdale and Little Rock.  Arkansas United is looking for someone to write grants, learn development work, and learn how a non-profit is operated.  Arkansas United would welcome an immigrant and/or person of color for this internship position.
