Application Process

Deadline for admissions materials:

  • Fall 2019 admission – August 1, 2019
  • Spring 2020 admission – November 1, 2019
  • Fall 2020 admission – April 1, 2020

Admission into the PhD in Leadership Studies program is highly competitive. The admissions committee reviews materials in a holistic manner determining how well the applicant’s professional goals meet those of the program and how likely, based upon the materials submitted, the applicant will successfully complete the program. 

To be considered for admission, the applicant must:

  • Have completed a master’s degree with minimum GPA of 3.00 before the term applied for begins and

To apply, the applicant should submit the following to the Graduate School:

  • Online Graduate School application;
  • A non-refundable $25 application fee remitted to the Graduate School;
  • GRE scores from Educational Testing Service (ETS);
  • Official transcripts from every institution the applicant attended as either an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • A current vita or résumé;
  • Statement of Intent, explaining how the program is aligned with the applicant’s professional goals (one to three pages);
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (sent directly from the referral).

The PhD Leadership Studies Admissions Committee evaluates items submitted for review in a weighted manner in this order (greatest importance to least importance): 1) professional aspirations alignment with the program’s vision; 2) demonstrated writing ability; 3) GPA and GRE (with preferred minimum scores of 153 on verbal, 144 on quantitative, and 4.5 on writing), and 4) references.
