For our Bridgerton discussion, the only requirement is that you’ve seen some (but, hopefully all) of the Bridgerton TV series on Netflix.

If interested, you can read one (or all) of these short articles (about 30 minutes total), all of which discuss stereotypes of the romance genre and will be helpful for our discussion:

  1. Romance Novels Might Be Some Of The Most Rebellious Books You Can Read Right Now by E. Ce Miller
  2. Never Judge a Smithie by her Cover: Sarah MacLean on the Romance Genre by Chichi Tsai
  3. I Avoided Romance Novels for Years and Now I’m Hooked by Mandy Shunnarah

If interested in reading the book that the first season of Bridgerton is based on, you can check out The Duke and I by Julia Quinn but its not required for discussion.

Dig Where You Are by Dr. Nan Doyal
November 4, 2019
The author, Dr. Nan Doyal, came to UCA to facilitate this bookclub event. If you missed it, it’s a good read.  Learn more…
In her book Dig Where You Are,  Doyal introduces us to seven men and women who have solved some of the biggest challenges facing our societies today. Their stories are entertaining, heart-breaking, inspiring and at their core, empowering. From the slums of Mumbai, the villages of Tibet and northeast Thailand, the inner cities of Philadelphia and San Francisco, and a ghetto outside Stockholm, Dig Where You Are tells of an artist, a surgeon, a teacher, a criminologist, an economist, a community organizer, and a general physician each of whom saw a way beyond suffering and injustice, took responsibility for the well being of others and ended up transforming lives and communities across the world.

Join us at UCA Downtown located at 1105 West Oak Street in Downtown Conway for our book club meetings. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Come as you are having read or not read the book. All book club discussions are lead by Dr. Leslie Zorwick, Chair, Department of Psychology.
