Lifestyle & Leisure Classes

Situational Spanish

Dates: Thursdays, Sept. 28th – Dec. 7th

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Location: Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center

Fee: Community Member – $150, *UCA Affiliate – $25

Situational Spanish builds on the language skills covered in Conversational Spanish as offered before, but students who can use basic conversational Spanish are welcome to enroll without having taken a previous CLS course. This course presents language necessary for navigating specific situations in a Spanish-language environment, including (but not limited to) travel, visiting someone’s home/discussing family, and participating in cultural activities.  (No class held November 23, 2023)

Conversational Japanese

Dates: Mondays, Sept. 25th – Dec. 4th

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Location: Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center

Fee: Community Member – $150, *UCA Affiliate – $25

This course is designed for those who have had limited to no experience with Japanese and would like to develop basic conversational skills; however, anyone with any Japanese skill level will learn something! Useful Japanese words and phrases will be practiced through games and activities to help students learn the language appropriate for basic conversation in Japanese. This class will also introduce various cultural topics of interest when traveling or making Japanese friends. Reading and writing in Japanese will be discussed, but the ability to read and write in Japanese is not necessary for the class.  (No class held November 20, 2023)

Korean for Daily Life

Dates: Wednesdays, Sept. 27th – Dec. 6th

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Location: Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center

Fee: Community Member – $150, *UCA Affiliate – $25

Korean for Daily Life builds on the language skills covered in Elementary Korean as offered before, but students who can read Hangul and speak conversational Korean are welcome to enroll without having taken a previous CLS course. This course presents language necessary for navigating specific situations in a Korean-language environment, including (but not limited to) common etiquette, travel, visiting the hospital/pharmacy, and asking directions. (No class held November 22, 2023)*UCA affiliate includes  Current Students as well as Faculty/Staff/Retired/Alumni/Family Member

Conversational Spanish (Online via Zoom)

Dates: Mondays,Sept. 25th – Dec. 4th

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Location: Online via Zoom

This course is designed for adults who have had limited to no experience with Spanish and would like to develop basic conversational skills. Topics include (but are not limited to) greetings, exchanging personal information, and providing basic information, such as the day and time.*UCA affiliate includes  Current Students as well as Faculty/Staff/Retired/Alumni/Family Member

Conversational German

Dates: Thursdays, Sept. 28th – Dec. 7th

Time: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

This course is designed for adults who have had limited to no experience with German and would like to develop basic conversational skills. The class will start with the alphabet, a brief discussion of general grammatical terms and simple phrases. It will develop into conversational classes covering basic grammar. This course also presents language necessary for navigating specific situations in a German-language environment, including common etiquette, eating out, shopping, and travel. (No class held November 23, 2023)

Financing a Home Loan

Date: September 26, 2023

First Time Homebuyer

Date: October 21, 2023

Time: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Location: Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center

Purchasing a home is a monumental step toward building wealth, but it can be a very daunting task—especially if you’re a first-time homebuyer. With all of the steps involved in the homebuying process, where do you even start on this road toward your dream lifestyle? Lacey Walters of the Universal Housing Development Corporation is ready to share all of the ins and outs that you need to know as you plan your future as a first-time homeowner. Upon completion of this class, you will be issued an Arkansas Development Finance Authority certificate that is a prerequisite for assistance toward a down payment or closing costs on a new home. (Learn and Earn!) Anyone who will be included on your mortgage loan must attend this class to receive the discount (e.g., both husband and wife). Lunch will be provided by Centennial Bank.
