Bachelor of General Studies- Health Science & Social Sciences (BGS)

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is a broad multidisciplinary degree for individuals who have the equivalent of an associate degree with at least 60 hours of college credit including the State Minimum Core but have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

Interested students who have not completed the equivalent of an associate degree may be initially enrolled in the Associate of Arts (AA) degree program in General Education and work with an Academic Advisor to complete the State Minimum Core and at least 60 hours of credit. Assuming all appropriate prerequisites have been met, students enrolled in the AA program may also complete courses in fulfillment of the BGS. Interested students should contact an Academic Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts. Online students will focus on the Health Science Concentration and the Social Sciences Concentration.

*Students without the above listed requirements are not guaranteed online course availability and time to graduation is likely to increase in length.


It is not designed for:

  • First-time freshmen
  • Students seeking prerequisite courses for other majors or graduate degrees
  • Students seeking random online courses
  • Students who already have a bachelor’s degree

  • (Required for Entry) A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, and one of the three options below:
  • (Highly Recommended) An Associate Degree from one of UCA’s Arkansas Community College Partners.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of General Studies requires online students to complete a total of 60 upper division credit hours comprised of the following:

  • 18 credit hours in the Health Science Concentration;
  • 18 credit hours in the Social Sciences Concentration; and
  • 24 credit hours of elective courses.
