Griffin Planetarium shows this weekend Friday April 28 and Saturday April 29 at 7:00pm: The one-hour shows this week includes a tour of the current sky and full-dome movies on Mayan and Aztec astronomy. The planetarium is located in the Conway Corporation Center for the Sciences. Building doors open at 6:30pm. Seating starts 10 minutes before show time. Admission is free. Seating limited to the first 94. No admission after the shows begin. No food or drink allowed.

The UCA Makerspace is now part of the Art and Design Department. We are primarily a space for the art students to work on their art projects, but we are still open to all students and community members as before, on certain days.

Starting May 17, for the Summer, we will be open to everyone Wednesdays – Fridays. You’ll be able to start scheduling appointments Monday, May 15 at https://uca.edu/art/uca-makerspace/

Top 5 things you need to know:

1. If you are adding images, define alternative text.
2. If adding video, include descriptive captions. If using a service, like Kaltura here at UCA, and the auto-caption includes errors, make sure you edit the captions to correct any errors.
3. Format documents with appropriate headings to ensure accurate reading by screen readers. Use the Formatting and Style options in most word processing software. In addition, use those tools for bulleted and numbered lists, too.
4. If using PDF documents, tag those properly so the structure can be read by screen readers. To learn more about making accessible PDF documents, see Meet PDF Accessibility Standards on the Adobe Acrobat website.
5. Be sure to provide clear expectations, instructions, and directions for all assignments and tests. This can help students that may have trouble focusing on simple tasks.

Please join us for the Spring 2023 Honors Capstone Project Presentations, where honors students will present their research. These presentations are open to the public and will occur throughout the final week of classes. The bulk of the presentations are scheduled for Friday, 4/28/23, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Ronnie Williams Student Center. However, pay close attention to the dates, times, and locations given in the attached schedule. There are a handful of presentations in the week leading up to 4/28/23.

ACRE’s Spring Speaker Series concludes on April 25 with Meg Tuszynski, managing director of the Bridwell Center for Economic Freedom. Ms. Tuszynski will discuss the proper role of government in a free society in her presentation, “Economic Freedom: What it is and Why it Matters,” at 1:40 P.M. in the College of Business Auditorium.

Dear Faculty,
During AY 23-24 UCA will be assessing all courses designated as Critical Inquiry in the UCA Core. As part of this process, we are asking all faculty slated to teach a course designated as Critical Inquiry, whether in the lower or upper division Core during Fall ‘23 or Spring ’24, to review the PowerPoint presentations here: https://uca.edu/core/for-faculty/critical-inquiry-assessment/ The relevant presentations are labeled “Pre-Cycle.” There are separate presentations for each goal of the Critical Inquiry competency. If you do not know under what goal your course assesses, please ask.

Each presentation covers basic expectations around Core assessment, as well as information on rubrics, learning outcomes, and the submission of artifacts (student work). We are asking that you review this information ahead of AY 23-24 so that you can choose, revise, or design, an appropriate assignment that allows students to demonstrate their full abilities across the learning outcomes on which they will be assessed next academic year.
