By now, most faculty have heard of ChatGPT, the newest chatbot that has heads spinning in academia. This artificial intelligence uses natural language processing to generate conversations and text in the form of essays, articles. personal communication, and much more in a matter of SECONDS.
In an effort to inform faculty about this new technology, CETAL has released a webpage providing basic information and resources for more exploration. While still in development, this webpage gives faculty a better understanding of ChatGPT, including what it is, how it works, its features and limitations, as well as its potential impact on learning.
Faculty interested in learning more about ChatGPT are encouraged to attend the upcoming workshop, Chat GPT Across the Curriculum: What is it? How can we respond appropriately? held on February 21 at X-period. This special workshop will provide an overview of Chat GPT’s capabilities and a collection of suggested approaches, as well as an opportunity to collaboratively brainstorm likely effects in our respective disciplines and assignment-specific strategies to address those effects.

Data Management and Use Policy
Data is one of the University’s most important assets. In every area, members of the campus community (i.e., faculty, students, staff, and agents or affiliates of the University) are managing or using campus data. Highly sensitive data is a vital resource which is made available to all employees who have a legitimate need for it, consistent with the University’s responsibility to preserve and protect such information by all appropriate means.
The purpose of this policy is to highlight specific requirements that must be met by all who handle, use, store, or otherwise manage highly sensitive university data as defined in the Data Classification Policy.
It is the responsibility of each individual with access to highly sensitive data resources, as defined in the Data Classification Policy, to use these resources in an appropriate manner and to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local statutes. Additionally, it is the responsibility of each individual with access to highly sensitive data to safeguard these resources.

Data Classification Policy
UCA uses computer systems to perform education, research, and all other business functions by collecting, storing, and processing data. State, federal, and international laws and regulations require protection of this data and prescribe the types of security and privacy
controls required for protecting its confidentiality, availability, and integrity. The purpose of this policy is to define a data classification schema and define the most effective, efficient, and economically reasonable controls to protect the data.
This policy applies to all university-owned data collected by university business units and departments, stored on university-owned devices and systems, transferred between university-owned devices and systems or between university-owned devices/systems and all other devices and systems owned and operated by third parties who are storing and processing university data.
All data collected, stored, processed and transferred should be categorized and labeled properly. Everyone, including but not limited to faculty, staff, students, and any third-party service provider collecting, processing, or storing university data, excluding federal, state, and legal institutions (eg: ADHE, DOJ) should implement the security controls defined in this policy.

The Arkansas Center for Research in Economics Spring Speaker Series begins Thursday, Feb. 2, with Dr. Marcus Witcher. His presentation, “Black Entrepreneurship: Building the Foundation for Freedom,” will be held in the COB Auditorium at 1:40 p.m. Additional speakers this Spring include Nolan Gray, Feb. 7 (How Zoning Broke the American City and How to Fix It), and Meg Tuzynski, April 25 (Economic Freedom: What it is and Why it Matters).

The Science, Society, and Service-Learning in Rwanda study abroad students are hosting a 5K on March 11 to raise money to build more rocket stoves in Kanembwe village! Rocket stoves are more fuel efficient and produce less smoke, which benefits the local environment and respiratory health of the village residents.
Each $30 registration fee will provide one stove! Even if you can’t participate, but would like to sponsor a stove, please register for the event.

The purpose of the Incorporating Human Behavior in Epidemiological Models activity is to support interdisciplinary collaborations that integrate research on behavioral and/or social processes in mathematical epidemiological models. Projects supported under this activity should be collaborative in nature and depend for their advancement on the coordinated interaction of two or more PIs/co-PIs, with balanced participation from both the mathematical sciences and the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. Additional participants from other disciplines, especially the biological sciences, are also welcome.
Each project should focus on a significant and well-delineated research challenge that integrates behavioral and social processes into mathematical epidemiological models. Examples of research challenges include, but are not limited to:
1. Behavioral realism and sensitivity analysis.
2. Incorporation of behavioral change.
3. Incorporation of multiple environments: climate, seasonal, political, and social.
4. Incorporation of population heterogeneity and policy models.
5. Data needs for rich mathematical epidemiological models.
Projects need not focus on human pathogens or human hosts, although such research must still incorporate human behavior and/or social processes. Examples of research on non-human systems include: how changes in behaviors or farming practices affect the transmission of foot-and-mouth disease, how economic factors affect the global spread of pathogens through the pet trade, or how hunting affects the spread of prions in white-tail deer.
