The Independent Greek Council (IGC) is the newest governing body for nationally based fraternities and sororities at UCA. IGC includes organizations which do not hold membership in the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), and National Pan-Hellenic Conference (NPHC). Membership is open to national fraternities who hold membership in: NALFO, NAPA, NMGC or another comparable governing/coordinating umbrella organization.

IGC was officially formed in 2010 with the addition of Beta Upsilon Chi fraternity to the UCA Greek community. In the spring 2011 semester, Sigma Phi Lambda sorority joined IGC. Together these organizations began the process of building a governing council valuing and promoting leadership, service, social activities, brotherhood/sisterhood, and educational/cultural programming. Beta Upsilon Chi has since joined the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and the chapter is now a member of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) locally.

Presently the council consists of Sigma Phi Lambda, a social Christian sorority, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc, a Latino fraternity and NALFO member organization, and Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, a Latina sorority and NALFO member organization.
