Connect on LinkedIn!

LinkedIn can help you make connections that can lead to jobs or professional development.

Begin by creating a professional profile to promote yourself.

Next, you need to build your connections wisely.

♦ Share your URL through a business card, your resume, and your email signature, and accept connections from recruiters, employers, and other key individuals.

Use the Alumni Tool to find graduates from UCA with the same major as you.

(follow these 4 simple steps to find UCA Alumni)

  1. Log into your LinkedIn account.
  2. Type University of Central Arkansas into the search box.
  3. Go to the University’s page and click on See Alumni.
  4. You will see a box that will let you search for Job title, keyword, or company. You can also search for graduates from specific years. Below the number of alumni are columns for some of the other ways you can search. The ‘next’ arrow will show you more options for narrowing your search including “what they studied.”

Connections of Connections – If one of your connections has a connection with someone you wish to speak with about a job, about working in your chosen field, or in that field in a particular part of the world, etc., ask your connection for an invitation to their connection and follow up with a message to the new connection. It is great to use this in combination with the Alumni Tool.

♦ Join groups that are relevant to your field. LinkedIn will make recommendations periodically. You can join up to 50 groups, but be sure to join open groups first as you can not join any more groups while you have 3 pending group requests.

♦ Participate in Group discussions.

♦ Share the links to good articles you read along with your comments.

♦ Consider writing information posts others might want to share, but take plenty of time first to read what others are writing to get a feel for what makes a good post.
