Outdoor Programs

Program Descriptions


The Clinics introduce you to new outdoor skills, learn new information, or refine what you already know. With only a ONE HOUR commitment, discover more about outdoor recreation and the numerous opportunities to participate in outdoor activities.

Clinics are designed to be more instructional, with limited participation.

*All clinics will be in the Jewel E. Moore Reserve or at the HPER Center.

Every 2nd Thursday of the month, 6 pm – 7 pm.

  • April 11th, Planning a Float Trip: Whether in a canoe or kayak, learn to where go and how to paddle past the headaches. *Conducted at COPA
*This is to help with communication and planning purposes.


The Sessions provide the opportunity to use COPA equipment and learn valuable experience in the outdoors.  COPA staff will provide equipment and personal instructionor enjoy using COPA equipment on your own.

Sessions are designed to be more hands-on and active participation, in the natural outdoor environment.

*All sessions will be at Woolly Hollow State Park (https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/woollyhollow/), located in Greenbrier.

If needed at the beginning of each session, personal instruction can last up to 45 minutes.

One Saturday, each month, 10 am – 12 pm

  • April 6th, Mountain Trail Riding: CANCELLED due to impending weather conditions.

*All are FREE, but are only open to UCA Affiliates.  Only one clinic and session per month.

The Trips are “guided outdoor expeditions” to explore natural environments and participate in various outdoor recreation sports such as hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, and rock climbing.  They are offered each semester and occur over weekends, even spanning multiple days throughout university holidays and breaks.

Trips are designed to physically active in an outdoor recreation event, experience various ecosystems, and interact with diverse participants.

*All trips have limited spots, require an affordable fee and reservations made at the HPER Fitness Center.  For more information, contact Rob Stine (rstine@uca.edu).

  • Friday, 4/19 – Monday, 4/22 White Water Rafting (Ocoee and Hiawassee Rivers):  White water float on Class V rapids, with camping and hiking at the Hiwassee/Ocee Scenic River State Park.
