“Brake For Bears” Campaign to Promote Pedestrian Safety

The University of Central Arkansas Police Department is promoting pedestrian safety through its “Brake for Bears” campaign scheduled for Nov. 3.

Volunteers will be encouraging safety awareness throughout the day at various crosswalks. UCA police and volunteers will be distributing educational fliers to pedestrians, drivers and bicyclists along crosswalks at Bruce Streets and Donaghey Ave. Other locations may be determined at a later date.

UCA Police officials say pedestrian safety is a major concern.

“We want our campus and the Conway community to be alert and be safe,” said Arch Jones, Jr., director of organizational & community services for UCAPD.

The police department wants to emphasize not only drivers need to be alert, but also pedestrians.

“ No matter who has the right-of-way, we all need to be alert. Pedestrian safety is everyone’s business,” Jones said.
