Nobody’s journey is ever the same. Some people remain in the same career their entire lives. Some go to work while balancing school and a family. Some take a break before deciding to go back for more education or training to land a job they may really love.
Has it been a little while since you’ve been back to school? We sat down with Dave, a full-time student and full-time husband and father to see what advice he had for students who haven’t been in the classroom in a few years.
Dave had a 15 year career in management and sales before becoming a full-time stay-at-home dad. Prior to enrolling, he had little to no formal computer background.
When asked what it was like diving back in to school after years of being out of the classroom, Dave said it was harder than he anticipated at first.
“You’re basically relearning how to learn. You’re transitioning into a completely different industry with a brand new skillset.”
Despite the initial adjustment period, Dave is glad he decided to move forward with his education and even had some advice to offer students who were thinking about taking that same step.
“Go for it. It’s an adjustment, but it’s only for 90 days. You can do anything for 90 days. You need to be 100% committed, but if you can do that, it’s so worth it.”
