Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies

Are you interested in a liberal arts education that is not confined to one area of study? Would you like to create your own program? The Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies major at the University of Central Arkansas will provide you with an opportunity to pursue a course of study that emphasizes a specific area of interdisciplinary liberal arts inquiry including: Anthropology, Asian Studies, Gender Studies, Latin American Studies, or Southern and Arkansas Studies; or work with a faculty mentor to design an individualized focus of study consistent with the principles of a liberal arts education.

Our curriculum provides a broad foundation in the liberal arts, including courses in geography, history, literature and language, philosophy, society and culture, and politics. Our students are offered one of the most diverse educations available at UCA and are prepared to pursue further studies in graduate and professional programs, or achieve promising careers in a variety of fields.

  • Professional Development through summer and part-time job opportunities and transformative internships, which provide students with valuable field experience, professional contacts, a proven work record, and can even lead to permanent jobs. We also have many student-led associations that host events and activities throughout the year to give students an opportunity to interact with their peers, professors, and innovators in the field. Just a few of the offerings include: discussion panels for current issues, an annual student writing competition, a film and lecture series, guest speakers who present lectures and workshops, service learning projects in the local community, and research and presentation opportunities at regional conferences.
