The principles of Finance are applicable in many areas of daily life, such as saving for retirement, leasing a home, and buying a car. The Finance major at the University of Central Arkansas takes this everyday approach further, concentrating studies in Corporate Finance (financial management within a company, large and small alike); Financial Markets and Institutions (money and capital markets as well as domestic and international financial markets); and Investments (analyzing, valuing, and underwriting or selling securities, managing security portfolios, trading securities for investors, providing merger and acquisition advice to corporations, and financial counsel in individual wealth management). Graduates from our program receive excellent placements in graduate and professional programs or a variety of fields, such as banks, financial and investment advising firms, real estate, and the FDIC.
As a Finance major at UCA, you’ll have access to all of the distinct advantages that make the UCA experience special. Just a few of the benefits of our program include:
- Expert Faculty who are consummate researchers and bring their real-world knowledge into the classroom for applied learning exercises, such as case studies and business finance simulations. They provide access to financial leaders on campus, particularly through the Entrepreneurship Speakers Series, and off campus through internship and research opportunities. Our instructors contribute individual attention to our students, offering academic advising as well as internship and job interview guidance.
- Professional Networking through internship and research opportunities, many of which are led by UCA alum, who make up a large percentage of the state’s financial community. Students can participate in the Finance and Investment Club, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, which brings financial leaders from around the world to campus; as well as competitions, like the CASE Competition, funded by Target, and the CFA Global Investment Research Challenge, in which a dedicated team can represent UCA and introduce their ideas to the world of finance across the nation and around the globe.
- Employment Opportunities for our graduates are numerous, with starting salaries of $48,000 and more. Recent alumni have acquired positions with companies such as First Security Bank, Northwestern Mutual, the FDIC, Windstream, US Compounding, and Centennial Bank, just to name a few.
