Help with the Reading and Writing Portions of the Praxis I Exam
Students can practice the reading and writing portions of the Praxis I exam in the Writing Center and receive feedback from our trained consultants as they work. We house 71 sample Praxis I writing prompts. Students are assigned one of the writing prompts each time they come in for practice. Once they have finished writing the essay, they make an appointment with a writing center consultant. During that appointment, the consultant scores the essay and provides feedback for improvement.
We encourage students to practice often in preparation for the exam. Improving writing skills takes time.
Students interested in preparing for the reading section of the exam work with writing consultants to develop active reading skills. We have many Praxis I sample questions for reading. During the first visit to the Writing Center, a consultant will ask the student to answer some of those questions. Based on the student's answers, the consultant will provide targeted active reading strategies for that student.
