Alana Reid (Ph.D., University of Michigan) is an Associate Professor of Spanish. She directs the Internship programs for Modern Languages and also serves as director of the Latin American and Latino Studies program. She joined the UCA faculty in 2009 and has taught a wide variety of courses from elementary Spanish language through graduate courses in Latin American literature. She also teaches classes in English, such as Latinos in the U.S., Latin American Film, and Latin American Women Writers. Her research and teaching interests center primarily on gender and sexuality in 20th and 21st century Hispanic culture.  She especially enjoys teaching classes that are interactive and creative with culminating projects such as live performances, student-created films, and collaborative service projects. She has published articles in academic journals such as Letras Femeninas, Hispania and Hispanófila, and is currently working on a book manuscript centering on representations of cross-dressing pirates in Latin American fiction.
