Reading, Writing and Math Portions of the Praxis I Exam
Students can practice the reading, writing, and math portions of the Praxis I exam in the Tutoring Center and receive feedback from our tutors as they work. When you come in, a tutor can set up an account for you and guide you through a quick diagnostic test.
Students interested in preparing for the reading section of the exam may work on the NorthStar system. Tutors may give advice on Academic Reading skills to improve your score on the exam.
Along with the UCA Writing Center, we also offer practice with the multiple choice writing portion of the Praxis I through NorthStar learning. You may want to coordinate your visit to the Tutoring Center with an appointment with a Writing Center consultant. Writing Center consultants are available through the Tutoring Center, Suite 223, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contact the Writing Center to arrange a consulting session on these days, or visit the Writing Center in Thompson Hall Monday-Fridays 8a.m.-4:30p.m.
Students interested in preparing for the math section of the exam work with our math tutors to develop their math skills. We have many math tutors available to answer questions for math. During the first visit to the Tutoring Center, a tutor may ask the student to answer some basic math questions. Based on the student’s answers, the tutor will provide some math strategies for that student.
We encourage students to practice often in preparation for the exam. Improving reading, writing and math skills takes time.
