2017 Program Date Options:
May 28th – June 25th (4 weeks) OR May 28th- July 9th (6 weeks)
This includes travel to and from Costa Rica.
In conjunction with the Costa Rican Language Academy
Course tuition, home stay accommodations with a Costa Rican family, all breakfasts, dinners and laundry service. International Student Identity Card & Emergency Coverage, International Medical Insurance, San Jose Airport Pick-up Service and 6 credit hours Spanish Language transferable to UCA.
Cost does NOT include:
Airfare & Transportation Fees while abroad, Lunches (available for purchase within walking distance or at the school), Weekend Excursions & Optional Activities.
Spanish 3398 Central-American and Costa Rican Culture, Spanish 2340 Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in Costa Rica, Advanced Oral Practice Abroad in Costa Rica 3340.
SPAN 3398 & SPAN 3340 (if Span 2320 taken before)
Courses are held 5 hours per day Monday through Thursday. Students will get credit for six (6) hours of electives. Normally those courses required for the major or minor in Spanish must be taken in residence. Approval by Dept. of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures is required.
In addition, CRLA offers the following services for UCA students:
Latin Dance Classes, Weekly Conversation Classes, Weekly Costa Rican Cooking Classes, 24-hour airport pick-up, Books and class materials, Internet service & Wireless internet access, Telephone for local calls & Mail service, Fresh coffee & fruit refreshments, Wholesaler tour rates for students (optional excursions/activities), Travel arrangements, bus ticket purchase and hotel reservations.
HONORS COLLEGE CREDIT: HONC 3310: Honors Seminar

Dr. Jaime Zambrano is currently an associate professor of Spanish at the University of Central Arkansas.
A native of Colombia, Dr. Zambrano received his Ph.D from the University of Missouri and specializes in contemporary Spanish American literature and contemporary Spanish American narrative. His current areas of focus include Central American literature and violence in Central American novel. Since 2001, Dr. Zambrano has been leading groups of students to San Jose, Costa Rica with the Spanish Language Immersion program.
