Read/Write to Succeed

If you want to start college ready to be successful in all of your classes, then the UCA Summer Start – Read/Write to Succeed program is for you!  Read/Write will help you start ahead of the game, by providing you with opportunities to:

  • Improve your communication skills and proficiency
  • Prepare you for college-level reading and writing in your fall classes
  • Review note-taking strategies, study skills, and test-taking skills
  • Learn about the many resources UCA offers to help you succeed
  • Meet other students, faculty and staff before Welcome Week even begins
  • Move into your residence hall a week early
  • Have fun!

Read/Write is especially recommended for students with a Reading or English ACT of 17-23. StudentSS paraphenalis enrolling in Read/Write who require developmental courses in Reading or Writing may take a placement exam at the end of the program in an effort to place out of developmental work.  Your fall schedule will then be revised accordingly.

All students in Read/Write to Succeed should plan to participate in the success workshops and other events that are part of the program.

Write to Succeed Requirements

To be successful in Read/Write to Succeed, you should:

  • Apply early
  • Attend all scheduled sessions and success workshops
  • Complete all assignments as assigned by the instructors

Application Deadline & Program costs:

Online registration opens March 27, 2017 (see below)

Students must apply by July 21 and submit fees no later than July 31, 2017 (Note: space is limited. Enrollment is only guaranteed once payment is made.)


Non-residentialProgram fee/lunch daily:  $ 150

Residential: Program fee/daily meal plan (breakfast/lunch/dinner)/campus housing: $ 325

* Residential participation is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory. Campus housing is available for the duration of the program for students who will be living on campus Fall 2017. Residential participants who have been assigned to UCA housing for Fall 2017 may move in to their assigned Fall 2017 room at the beginning of the program on Sunday afternoon, August 13th.

Payment can be made online immediately after completing your registration form or by following these directions:

  • Access your MyUCA account
  • Click the “CashNET” tab
  • Click “Make Payment/ Add-on charges”
  • Select the appropriate Summer Start program*
    *If you wish to live on campus for the duration of the program, please ensure you select the
    appropriate program that includes housing
  • Make Payment
